Customers stand in front of a locked post office in Ebersberg while the shipments lie unguarded in the stairwell of the shopping center.

The post office responds with an apology.

Ebersberg

– Every minute, customers stop at the locked sliding glass door of the post office in the Ebersberg e-Einz shopping center.

“My, the mail!” complains a woman before she leaves with her package in her hand without having accomplished anything.

What she misses, but which many other passersby notice in the stairwell of the shopping center: she could have taken a few packages with her - and a few letters on top of that.

Because in front of the elevators there are two abandoned trolleys with the daily mail.

Destined for the branch that simply wasn't open that morning.

There is no corresponding notice on the door.

The branch is closed: the cars stand unguarded in front of the elevators for an hour

Clearly left behind by the postal driver, the letters and packages are available for the curious to see and self-service for the indecent.

On top is a thick, brown envelope addressed to the district office's immigration office - apparently their mailboxes haven't been filled either.

Next to it is an Amazon package, a black plastic bag with a customs declaration stuck on it, and another package suggests that there may be expensive electronics inside due to the battery warning stuck on it.

Packages that were intended for store pickup were ultimately brought to safety by e-EinZ employees.

“That’s not possible!” exclaimed another passer-by, who commented on the data protection issues going to the dogs as she walked away.

Someone called the police.

The Ebersberg inspection officials also failed in their attempt to reach the store operator.

But they track down two friendly mall employees who move the two push carts into a locked room.

After about an hour in the stairwell, eyewitnesses from the EZ on site reported that the postal secrecy was protected.

The matter will not have any legal consequences.

According to current knowledge, the Ebersbergers were honest enough that no shipments went missing.

Police chief Ulrich Milius explains when asked by the EZ: “No violation could be determined, so of course no further measures.”

Letters, including those to the district office, lie open and unobserved in the stairwell in front of the elevators.

Branch operator: “I’ll stick with it!”

The operator of the post office reacts to the EZ's request with dismay.

He was sick and the employee who was supposed to deliver the daily mail to the store and fill the mailboxes could not be reached.

That's why there is no notice on the door.

“That’s my bread and butter,” says the tenant and promises: “I’ll stick with it!” He’s made provisions for the coming day – and will try to find a solution with the post office so that letters and packages don’t end up in front of a locked door. but in case of doubt, they can be taken back with you.

Post spokesman: “We expressly apologize”

The Post responds to the editorial team that the driver waited in front of the branch for around 20 minutes before leaving the shipments and informing his boss, who in turn immediately contacted the branch partner.

“Of course it was a mistake to leave the shipment truck unattended in front of the branch,” said a DHL spokesman.

“We expressly apologize for this.” We are grateful to the eyewitnesses and the e-EinZ employees for their careful behavior.

We will talk to everyone involved so that something like this doesn't happen again.

“Collaboration must definitely improve.” If customers miss a shipment, Swiss Post advises them to carry out an investigation.

Apparently nothing was stolen during the hour in question.
