There was a power outage lasting several hours at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Bonn.
The emergency care apparently didn't work either.
Bonn – The reputation of the Bundeswehr has suffered significantly due to developments in recent years.
Reports of staff shortages as a result of the suspension of compulsory military service increased, as did reports of inadequate equipment.
Even since Boris Pistorius took over the post in the Ministry of Defense, things have only become somewhat quieter around the German armed forces.
Recently, the SPD politician came across reports about overpriced headsets, among other things.
On Monday (February 12th) there was an incident at several important Bundeswehr locations.
Power outage at Pistorius' official residence - emergency supplies also failed
The power at the Bonn-Hardthöhe location is said to have been out for several hours.
This was reported by
Bild
.
The almost 80 hectare area in the former federal capital is the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense.
Particularly strange: the emergency power supply that was supposed to supply the ministry in such a case did not start either.
A spokeswoman for the Bundeswehr confirmed
the incident to
Bild .
“The cause of the fault and the failure to provide power to the emergency system are currently being investigated,” the statement said.
The IT services of the Bundeswehr and the external communication of “Harthöhe” were particularly affected.
However, the Bundeswehr emphasized that “internal communications and the leadership ability of the Federal Ministry of Defense” were not affected by the power outage.
It is not known whether Pistorius was also in Bonn at the time of the power outage.
The Defense Minister, together with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), took part in the groundbreaking ceremony for a new ammunition factory owned by the arms company Rheinmetall in Lower Saxony on Monday evening.
50,000 artillery shells are expected to roll off the production line there as early as 2025.
More money for the Bundeswehr – Pistorius calls for a permanent increase in the defense budget
In order to bring the Bundeswehr's sometimes ailing structures back into shape, Pistorius has meanwhile spoken out in favor of a permanent increase in the defense budget.
“I am happy about any proposal that helps ensure that defense spending is budgeted sensibly and appropriately,” he told the
Germany editorial network
, according to information on Wednesday.
“Another special fund is one option for this – but not my favorite.”

A special fund anchored in the constitution has the advantage that a certain amount is available for a certain period of time.
This could be spent on equipment, weapons and ammunition.
“But it has several disadvantages,” emphasized the minister.
