Will have to pay more in the future: Business owners in Zorneding © osw
The municipality of Zorneding is increasing the trade tax retroactively and hopes to generate additional income of up to 500,000 euros - but there is also criticism.
Zorneding – Germany as a business location is in danger. The call for tax cuts for traders is becoming increasingly louder.
It was precisely at this time that the Zornedingen administration decided to increase taxes.
Compared to other district municipalities, Zorneding is one of the high earners.
Zorneding increases the trade tax and hopes for additional revenue
The financial budget has been solid for many years, so taking on debt has never played a role.
And yet at the January meeting of the local council it was decided to increase the trade tax - retroactively to January 1, 2024. The agenda for the meeting mentions a “levelling of the trade tax”.
The aim is to align the assessment rates with the other municipalities or the average in the district.
Despite the currently positive financial situation in Zorneding, this is entirely understandable, because: This municipality's trade tax rate of 310 has so far been below the average of 330 in the district.
Only Bruck, Glonn, Moosach, Oberpframmern and Poing have a factor of 310.
Municipality raises assessment rate to 350 points
No municipality demands less.
The absolute leader is Pliening with 380 points.
And now the Zornedinger trade should be given a tax rate of 350.
Extrapolated, this would result in additional income of almost 500,000 euros for 2024.
Even though this massive increase was discussed and approved in the Main Finance and Social Committee on December 12, 2023, there was definitely a need for discussion in the following council meeting.
Also criticism of the tax increase in Zorneding
Robert Strobl (CSU) “basically didn’t like this plan at all”.
The commercial settlement would not be expanded, but the workers there would subsequently be “fleeced out”, according to the local council.
Stefan Stephan Raabe (SPD) did not like the choice of words “cupping”, found it “impossible” and protested against it.

He added that they wanted to offer an attractive location.

In contrast, Helmut Obermaier (Greens) clearly agreed with this type of financial planning in view of the years of lost income of, in his opinion, ten to 15 million euros due to the low assessment rate.
You wouldn't lose any business as a result, but at the same time you could "manage important investments." In addition, after the increase you would still be in the middle range.
Ferdinand Glasl from the CSU spoke out against the plans: One should not look at other communities, but rather generate additional income through the increased settlement of new businesses.
Local council votes to increase trade tax
However, Mayor Piet Mayr clarified that there were companies leaving the area due to a lack of commercial property.
And basic expansions are currently not possible.
In this context, Ramona Baumgartner (Left Party) criticized the fact that there was an “incredible amount of empty and expensive commercial space”.
Small businesses could not afford to settle in Zorneding, only large corporations such as “Aldi”, “Lidl” and Co. Nevertheless, the majority in the local council voted for the increased trade tax.
Consolation for other taxpayers: Property taxes A and B are received at the low rate of 310.
