A patient committed suicide Wednesday morning in the emergency department of the psychiatry department of the University Hospital Center (CHU) of Toulouse, already the scene of two cases of rape and sexual assault last weekend, the hospital said in a statement.
“The patient was discovered unresponsive at 8:30 a.m.” and “despite all the efforts made,” he “could not be saved,” the University Hospital said in the evening.
“The medical and healthcare team is deeply upset by the death of this patient, hospitalized for several days in the emergency room and whose transfer to a downstream structure was in progress,” writes the hospital.
The police are on the scene and a “medical-judicial investigation is underway,” the hospital also indicated.
A rape and sexual assault last weekend
The CHU had already reported this week of “tensions” on “downstream” structures, that is to say those able to accommodate psychiatric patients after the emergency phase.
This suicide occurs four days after a rape and sexual assault in the emergency department of the CHU, which receives more than 220,000 patients per year according to the management of this important hospital.
On Tuesday, a 30-year-old man was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention for the rape on Saturday evening of a young patient in the emergency department who had gone out to smoke a cigarette and whom he had asked for directions to the toilet before attacking her. , according to the CHU and the prosecution.

A patient hospitalized in psychiatry would have sexually assaulted a patient also hospitalized in psychiatry on the same day, indicated the hospital and the prosecution.
He could not be heard immediately due to his state of health, the prosecution indicated on Wednesday.
