Before the Republican Party Convention, which will decide on the presidential candidate, Donald Trump is trying to get his people in position.

Update from February 14th, 9:50 a.m.:

In a television interview, Lara Trump said that she would spend all of the Republican National Committee's money on electing Donald Trump if her father-in-law wanted her to become chairwoman of the RNC.

This is reported by the portal

Trump appeared on Newsmax

on Tuesday (Feb. 13)

and discussed her vision for the RNC when Ronna McDaniel steps down as chairwoman - which will likely happen later this month.

McDaniel's seven-year tenure at the organization has drawn many conservative critics over the years.

Asked what needs to change at the RNC, Trump said: “The RNC must become the leanest, deadliest political fighting machine we have ever seen in American history.

That is the goal for the next nine and a half months.

If I am elected to this office, I can assure you that there will be no more $70,000 or whatever exorbitant amount of money was spent on flowers.

Every single penny goes to the RNC's most important and only mission.

This is electing Donald Trump as President of the United States and saving this country.

We have no time to lose.

We have to get to work.

We need to raise a lot of money, and we need to make sure every penny goes toward the things I just mentioned.”

Trump nominates daughter-in-law for important post

First report:

Washington, DC - Former US President Donald Trump made public on Monday evening (February 12, local time) what had been discussed internally for days: he has his daughter-in-law Lara Trump as co-chair of the National Committee of the Republican Party (RNC) proposed.

The wife of son Eric Trump would be Ronna McDaniel's successor.

An RNC member told

Reuters

last week that McDaniel, the committee's acting chairwoman, was considering resigning after the South Carolina primary this month under pressure from Donald Trump.

“My very talented daughter-in-law Lara Trump has agreed to run for co-chair of the RNC.

She told me that she wanted to take on this challenge.

And she would be great,” Trump said on his own social media platform

Truth Social

.

“The RNC MUST be a good partner in the presidential election,” Trump wrote in his statement.

“It must do the job we expect of the national party and do it flawlessly.

“That means it must help ensure fair and transparent elections across the country and increase voter turnout,” Trump said.

Trump speaks out for his “friend” Whatley

As first chairman, he supported the Republican party leader in the state of North Carolina, Michael Whatley.

“Michael has supported me from the beginning and has done a great job in North Carolina,” Trump said.

He said he wanted his "friend" Whatley and his daughter-in-law to serve as party leaders.

“Lara is an extremely gifted communicator and is committed to everything MAGA stands for,” Trump said of his daughter-in-law, who is married to his middle son Eric.

“She told me that she wanted to take on this challenge.”

Background RNC

The

Republican National Convention

 (

RNC

) is a party convention held every four years to nominate the Republican Party's candidates for election as President and Vice President of the United States and to determine the party platform.

The Democratic Party's equivalent is the

Democratic National Convention

.

The meetings traditionally end with the presidential candidate's speech and the

baloon drop

, a balloon and confetti firework display that rains down on the meeting attendees.

Trump, who wants to run again in the 2023 US elections in November, has made it clear several times in the last few days that, in his opinion, the Republican National Committee needs to be reshuffled.

The committee plays a critical role in raising funds for the Republican presidential candidate, providing campaign resources and activating voters.

Nikki Haley: “Chairs on the Titanic rearranged”

The catch: Both chairman and vice chairman are paid positions, and Trump cannot simply appoint them.

A successor will need to be chosen for McDaniel if she ultimately decides to step down.

And despite Trump's great influence on his party, the Republicans, it is by no means certain that Republicans will follow the recommendations of their potential presidential candidate, as the

New York Times

writes in an analysis.

McDaniel, who has headed the party's official body for several years, has always been publicly referred to as a "friend" by Trump, but she has recently faced increasing pressure.

She stood by him even when he threatened to form his own party, spread conspiracies, lost the 2020 election and then tried to overturn the results.

In the end it wasn't enough, and under pressure from Trump, McDaniel probably decided to resign.

Trump's only competitor for the candidacy, Nikki Haley, responded to his plans by saying that Trump was "rearranging the chairs on the Titanic."

“Under Donald Trump and the current RNC leadership, Republicans lost the 2018, 2020 and 2022 elections, and now the RNC is effectively bankrupt,” Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankney said in a statement on

CNN

.

She added that Haley would push for all RNC employees to be fired.
