A 29-year-old woman in a coma after being violently beaten at the end of January by her companion in the Var has died, we learned on Wednesday from the public prosecutor of Draguignan, Pierre Couttenier.
The drama took place on the night of January 27 to 28 at the couple's home in Grimaud, in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez.
Quickly arrested, the companion was initially indicted for attempted murder by a spouse or partner and was placed in pre-trial detention.
The head of prosecution should now be requalified.
The young woman, victim of multiple traumas, had been in a coma since January 28.
She succumbed to her injuries.
On average, a feminicide occurs every three days in France.
The Minister of Justice Éric Dupond-Moretti recently put forward the figure of 94 femicides in 2023, compared to 118 in 2022, a drop greeted with skepticism by feminist associations.
