After a winter break, the renovation work on the Westring in Poing will continue after the carnival holidays.

The new sidewalks and cycle paths should be ready in April.

Poing - One year after a total of 87 trees were felled for the renovation on the Westring in Poing-Nord in February 2023, the work is now continuing - after a winter break.

As Mayor Thomas Stark announced, road work will continue after the carnival holidays.

Completion is planned for early/mid-April.

According to Stark, planting is also planned for spring.

It is currently bare on both sides of the Westring.

Last year, a new chain-link fence was built along the allotment area, and the new cycle path on this side is a good two-thirds complete.

Poing: new crossing aids

On the south side, near the residential development, a new pedestrian and cycle path is being built, part of which has already been created.

A crossing aid has already been built at Rosenstrasse, and a new barrier-free bus stop is also ready on the north side.

As Mayor Stark further announced, a full closure is to be expected again for the upcoming construction work, as another new crossing aid for pedestrians and cyclists is being built.

The road had to be completely or partially closed at the end of 2023 for previous work.

According to forecasts, traffic in the Westring will double

As early as July 2022, the local council unanimously decided that the Westring would be redesigned - with the construction of a pedestrian and cycle path on the south side and a new cycle path on the north side.

For this purpose, the trees and bushes were cleared, which caused criticism from residents and citizens.

The local council made the decision based on forecasts that traffic in the Westring would roughly double in the next few years when the new development areas Lerchenwinkel and the later W8 on Bergfeldstrasse to the west are completed.

Each new development area will provide living space for around 2,000 people.

In order to increase bicycle traffic, among other things, a completely new cycle path is being built along the allotment gardens.
