9-year-old Raffi has blood cancer.

A relapse - because the cheerful girl had been diagnosed with blood cancer shortly before starting school and had defeated the cancer with a lot of strength and chemotherapy.

Now he's back and she needs a stem cell donation.

9-year-old Raffi is cheerful, enjoys playing the guitar, doing crafts - and suffers from blood cancer.

Your only chance of survival is a suitable donor.

Burgthann – Raffi radiates joy of life.

This is clear from the article from the German Bone Marrow Donor File (DKMS).

“Crafts, playing the guitar, swimming, making nonsense videos with her big sister, playing patiently with the little one,” the nine-year-old girl says.

But as the existence of the article suggests: Raffi suffers from blood cancer.

Nine-year-old from Bavaria suffers from blood cancer - and is dependent on donors

Shortly before starting school, the then six-year-old Raffi from Burgthann in Central Franconia was diagnosed with blood cancer.

It was immediately “chemotherapy instead of school,” writes the DKMS.

But Raffi managed it and beat the blood cancer.

At least it seemed that way, but instead of the family's plan to emigrate to Spain, a relapse occurred at the beginning of 2024.

“It’s a difficult time for us,” say the parents, according to DKMS.

Because now Raffi's only chance of survival is a stem cell donation.

And as we all know, that is quite a matter of luck.

However, the chance can be increased by having more people register with the DKMS.

People with Romanian roots are particularly in demand: finding donors for Raffi

The DKMS call for registration in relation to nine-year-old Raffi is aimed primarily at people with Romanian roots, as “the probability that the genetic characteristics match is greatest when the donor and the patient have the same ethnic origin.” explains the DKMS on its website.

“Perhaps you are her perfect match.

Register, share the call and become Raffi’s superhero!” says the DKMS call.

Urgent DKMS call for potential donors – many registrants will be leaving in 2024

In an interview with our editorial team, Angela Wistuba-Hamprecht from DKMS Donor Recruitment explains that registering as a potential donor is essential for many people's chances of survival.

“There are now 12 million people registered with the DKMS.

This has already helped many patients who needed a stem cell transplant,” says Wistuba-Hamprecht.

Every day, 22 registered people would donate their stem cells and thus help sick people.

But every year hundreds of thousands of potential donors are removed from the register - because people are no longer allowed to donate from the age of 61 for medical reasons.

Wistuba-Hamprecht is all the more urgent in calling on young people in particular to register.

“That is why it is essential that as many young people as possible, especially from diverse ethnic backgrounds, register as potential stem cell donors.

Since young, male donors are more often asked to donate, this target group is particularly important,” explains Wistuba-Hamprecht in conclusion.

Hopefully Raffi will also find a donor - who will give her a new life without blood cancer.
