Garbage trucks cannot enter Käthe-Bauer-Weg for three weeks.

Residents have to hoard their garbage.

But who is to blame for the garbage disaster?

Munich - Hundreds of garbage bags are piled up on Käthe-Bauer-Weg in Laim, residents have to store their rubbish on the balcony, paper bins are overflowing - and have apparently been doing so for at least three weeks.

Reason: The garbage collection couldn't get through due to a construction site.

Garbage chaos in Laim: ÖDP and CSU demand answers - but AWM is now responding to the crisis

The ÖDP and CSU turned to the city with applications on Thursday (February 15).

However, the waste management company (AWM) has responded in the meantime.

When asked by our editorial team, a spokeswoman said: “The barrel house of the residential complex on Käthe-Bauer-Weg was completely emptied unscheduled at the beginning of the week.

The Käthe-Bauer-Weg has also been open to normal traffic again since yesterday.”

The construction site for the Westtangente tram is to blame for the garbage mishap.

“This has been blocking access to Käthe-Bauer-Weg since week five,” said the spokeswoman.

There was simply no possibility of turning around.

And reversing is not allowed.

Garbage chaos in Laim: The AWM had requested no-parking signs, but probably only a week ago

When the AWM became aware of the situation, immediate action was taken.

However, according to AWM, the whole situation could have been avoided if two no-parking signs had been put up at Kärntner Platz when the construction site was set up to create a turning point for garbage collection.

“It appears as if this was neglected during site planning.”

In this case, the mobility department must order parking bans.

When asked, a spokeswoman said that the AWM had “requested stopping bans for the location mentioned” just last week.

The colleague responsible was in contact with the company and the construction company.

“However, before the stopping bans could be ordered, the AWM announced that the stopping bans were no longer needed as the construction work was completed on Tuesday, February 13th.”

ÖDP leader Tobias Ruff: “It is more than regrettable that the garbage chaos had to escalate to such an extent.

We would like the AWM to prepare better for long-term construction sites in the future and to work better with the other departments.”
