It was a really special trip to Germany.

BR presenter Achim Bogdahn climbed the highest peak in every federal state.

He talks about this and his new book in Bad Tölz.

Bad Tölz – Bayern fans, please stop reading now or be very, very strong: Achim Bogdahn is coming to Bad Tölz.

The well-known BR radio presenter and ardent fan of TSV 1860 Munich (stage name in the passport: Achim Sechzig) will be a guest at the Protestant community center on February 29th to talk about his book “Unter den Wolken”.

Anyone who has ever seen Bogdahn in top form on the air or live knows that there is more than just the content of the book being narrated.

Bogdahn is funny, likes to go from the hundredth to the thousandth when telling stories - as in the book - but always remains entertaining.

And there is always a quick association of thoughts about the health of the club of his heart.

The conversation in Tölz – I promise – only touches on 1860 Munich

Herbert Konrad, who was reactivated from his pension for the district education center and the parish specifically for this conversation, can tell you a thing or two about it.

When Bogdahn appeared in Weilheim, he began his remarks with a hymn-like commitment to the city in Pfaffenwinkel.

Bogdahn explained with a grin to the local listeners, who were as proud as Oskar of the praise but of course didn't know why, that Thomas Miller lived and worked in Weilheim.

Thomas Miller, once a tough defender from 1860, was called the “football god”.

Aha, the audience marveled and grinned along with them.

The evening was and remained quite fun.

The conversation in Tölz also – I promise – only touches on 1860 Munich.

The topic is the mountains, an idea that came to Bogdahn's mind while reading a small newspaper notice and couldn't let go: The small report was about Brocken-Benno, who had marched a whopping 8,000 times to the top of the 1,141-meter-high Brocken in the Harz Mountains.

On the highest mountains of all federal states

The journalist Bogdahn couldn't let go of his curiosity about this “low mountain titan”.

“I wanted to go to the Brocken together with him.

And consequently also to the remaining 15 highest mountains in the other federal states.

If you’re going halfway up, then you’re doing it right.”

It took the now 58-year-old two and a half years to achieve his goal.

He covered a total of 12,861 meters in altitude.

That’s “almost one and a half times Mount Everest,” he adds with proud self-irony.

For each hike he looked for a representative who was representative of the state and traveled to all tours exclusively by public transport.

Because it led to “wonderful encounters” with his compatriots.

They are said to be meticulous, over-punctual and troublesome.

Achim Bogdahn initially found her to be extremely helpful.

He once learned to ski in Lenggries

He talks about all of these experiences in Tölz, which he knows from a live broadcast about the “great film Tödliche Links”, in which an unusual Tölz murder case is investigated.

As he explains, Bogdahn has also been a guest in Wackersberg.

When he dragged Mehmet Scholl to Thomas Bacher and his fashion label “Liebling” for the show “Mehmets Scholl Platten”.

And he also knows Lenggries: the son of the former Protestant regional bishop Martin Bogdahn learned to ski here as a nine-year-old, he says.

With Mehmet Scholl on the Feldberg

Speaking of Mehmet Scholl: He marched with him to Feldberg (Baden-Württemberg).

Keyword pastor's son: With Margot Käßmann he climbed Lower Saxony's highest peak, the 971 meter high Wurmberg.

This was nothing short of a giant compared to Bremen's Friedehorstpark (32.5 meters), which Bogdahn climbed with the extremely entertaining former mayor and by far the largest fellow hiker (2.04 meters) Henning Scherf.

“We briefly thought about a bivouac in the base camp and the use of oxygen cylinders, but rejected that,” writes the author dryly.

A stark contrast to Friedehorstpark is Bavaria and Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze (2961 meters).

Accompanying the journalist is the cheerful ex-ski racer Felix Neureuther, who gave Bogdahn the wise advice at the end of an unusual trip through Germany's mountains: "Don't take so many pictures with your smartphone, take pictures in your head and have beautiful memories."

The evening discussion

about the book “Under the Clouds” with Achim Bogdahn and Herbert Konrad will take place on Thursday, February 29th from 7:30 p.m. in the Protestant community center.

It makes sense to purchase tickets in advance.

They are available for 12 euros from the district education center and the “Winzerer”.
