Whether in the technical school in Mindelheim or in the high schools in Türkheim and Buxheim: This year the Unterallgäu district is again investing heavily in the schools.

Unterallgäu - In total, this year's budget includes expenditure of 35.3 million euros for schools, as district treasurer Sebastian Seefried informed the school, culture and sports committee.

The district spends the most money on education.

This shows “that we in the Lower Allgäu are extremely committed to this,” emphasized District Administrator Alex Eder.

  • The committee decided that the

    Burkhart-Grob technical school in Mindelheim

is to be technically upgraded for a total of 298,000 euros and expanded to include the subject of mechatronic technology.

According to headmaster Gottfried Göppel and Jonas Pospischil, who is responsible for the district's own schools at the district office, this is necessary in order to prepare for the future in the area of vocational training.

Industrial companies have a great need for well-trained specialists, said Pospischil.

    However, the requirements have changed.

In order to take the changing needs into account, mechatronics technology will also be offered in addition to mechanical engineering - as a part-time class for 20 students.

The students will be taught in the adjoining building of the vocational school if the departments previously housed there have been relocated to a new location as planned.

The adjoining building is to be technically equipped for the new part-time class at a cost of 238,000 euros.

A further 60,000 euros will be spent this year, among other things, for a practical room, which the mechanical engineering students also need.

It is still unclear whether and when the new specialty can be offered.

First, an application must be submitted to the Ministry of Culture.

The district administration can then take further steps.

  • Investments are also pending at the

    Joseph-Bernhart-Gymnasium in Türkheim

    .

Due to the increasing number of students, the school needs new rooms and a new gymnasium, informed headmaster Josef Reif and district treasurer Sebastian Seefried.

The Türkheim Gymnasium Special Purpose Association expects costs of up to 17 million euros for this.

For the Unterallgäu district, which shares 80 percent of the costs of the special purpose association, this means a contribution of up to 13.6 million euros.

However, a well-founded cost estimate is not yet available and can only be created as part of further planning.

The first planning costs of 400,000 euros are expected to be incurred in 2024, of which the district will have to cover 320,000 euros.

  • The district also contributes to the construction costs of the church schools.

The school, culture and sports committee approved the plans of the Augsburg diocese school organization and approved renovation measures at the

    Marianum in Buxheim

    and at the

    Maristenkolleg in Mindelheim

    .

Fire protection measures costing one million euros are planned at the Marianum this year.

This year, the Maristenkolleg Mindelheim plans to switch to district heating, renovate the roof and revise the power supply for 2.05 million euros.

The district pays 1.7 million euros of these costs.

600,000 euros of this this year.

In addition, the school budget includes expenditure for numerous other construction projects: for example, for the expansion of the special education support center in Mindelheim, for the planning of a new building for the Mindelheim vocational school and for the construction of a large photovoltaic system at the vocational school branch in Memmingen.

The budget also includes costs for student transport, digitalization measures and teaching staff.

Since the expenditure of 35.3 million euros is offset by income of twelve million euros - for example for guest students from other districts - the bottom line is that costs amount to 23.3 million euros.

The members of the committee unanimously approved the financial plan and recommended that the district council form it as proposed by the administration.
