A boat carrying migrants capsized this Wednesday on the Caribbean coast of Panama, in front of the inhospitable Darién jungle, leaving an undetermined number of dead, according to the Panamanian border police (Senafront).
Although authorities have not confirmed the total number of victims or their nationalities, reports from media outlets such as Telemetro and TVn2 stated that the boat was carrying 25 migrants, four of whom died and another seven were missing.
Senafront reported in a statement that the victims were found near the border of Panama with Colombia, in the Carreto area, near the Caribbean port of Obaldía.
The area is not far from a route through a deadly stretch of jungle known as the Darien Gap, where many U.S.-bound migrants travel on foot.
