This week a video was released in which former sheriff's deputy Jesse Hernández is seen shooting a handcuffed and unarmed detainee after mistaking the sound of an acorn bouncing off his patrol car for a gunshot.

The arrest, which occurred in November of last year, had been under investigation by the authorities.

Hernandez has resigned from his position, according to the Okalooosa, Florida, sheriff's department.

On body cameras, Hernández and his partner, Beth Roberts, are seen shooting at the vehicle where Marquis Jackson is.

Officers had placed Jackson in the back seat of the vehicle after arresting him for allegedly threatening his girlfriend and stealing his car.

Although law enforcement fired several rounds at the patrol car, Jackson was unharmed in the incident.
