“It should simply be nice and sporty” – that is the aim of a new offer from the Starnberg Alpine Club.

The open athletes' meeting takes place every third Monday of the month.

A multi-faceted offer for young and old athletes who want to exercise together.

Starnberg – A group workout, relaxed training for the country circuit, or pedaling at dusk: the Starnberg section of the German Alpine Club (DAV) is offering all this and more starting this month.

The whole thing goes under the name of open sportsmen's meeting.

An offer for “everyone between the ages of 16 and 99 who is interested in alpine-oriented sports and shared exercise,” writes the DAV in a press release.

There is already an Alpine club get-together, but for the tour representative, Astrid Süßmuth, there can't be enough exchange.

“We wanted to counterbalance the social gathering and, above all, do something for the younger people,” explains the 51-year-old.

The Starnberg section has 2,500 members, but according to Süßmuth, very few of them even know each other personally.

She has been a family group leader since 2006 and met her own husband at the Alpine Club.

One of the many reasons why exchange should be encouraged.

In addition to the joint activities, a kind of sample from the Alpine Club is also included.

In order to be able to sweat along at the free open athletes' meeting, no membership is required for the time being.

“Everyone can come by, look at everything and take part,” emphasizes Süßmuth, who is also the club’s secretary.

If further athlete meetings are planned, membership is desirable.

A wide range of tariffs can be found on the website dav-starnberg.de.

In order to enable financially disadvantaged families to participate, there is a separate family contribution for single parents.

If there are entry costs for the activity, such as ski passes, these must be borne by the respective course participant.

Climbing at the club's own climbing tower, bouldering in the hall and an evening bike tour are all free.

Whatsapp group for coordination

Every third Monday of the month, excluding school holidays, participants are expected at 7 p.m. in the Starnberg section clubhouse (Am Schlosshölzl 17).

The first meeting will take place next Monday, February 19th, at which climbing with the climbing guide Felix Friedrich is on the agenda - “and then, if you like, a little round of chat,” it says on the website.

In order to coordinate further meetings more precisely, there is the Whatsapp group “Sportlertreff DAV Starnberg”, which already has around 20 members.

If you would like to become a member, you can send Astrid Süßmuth an email with your contact details at as@dav-starnberg.de.

Further “open athlete meetings” in 2024 are planned for March 18, April 15, June 17, July 22, September 19, October 21, November 18 and December 16 .

By the way, the program is not set in stone: “If someone has an idea of what they would like to do, we are happy to take it up,” emphasizes Astrid Süßmuth.
