Share a car instead of buying it: That's car sharing.

When it comes to car sharing, the town hall wanted to set a good example.
But now they are backing down: the service fleet is not being converted.
The focus is on car sharing for citizens.
20 public parking spaces will be eliminated – for the time being.
Fürstenfeldbruck - For around six years, the city administration has been pursuing the idea of converting its own fleet to car sharing in combination with the construction of mobility stations and of creating an offer for citizens.
A car sharing fleet should be introduced for city hall employees.
Six vehicles were to be gradually converted to car sharing as soon as the previous leasing contracts expired.
The fleet should be equipped by an external provider - with as high a proportion as possible of electric vehicles.
Tender
A tender was prepared for the conversion of the official fleet.
The result was sobering.
“There was only one offer, and that was above our cost estimate,” reported Montserat Miramontes, responsible for mobility management at the town hall, at the most recent meeting of the transport committee.
That's why the city administration decided not to pursue the conversion of the car sharing fleet in the town hall "and to concentrate on car sharing in public spaces," said Miramontes.
Mobility stations
In order to make progress here, the administration will now develop a proposal that lists potential parking spaces for car sharing cars throughout the city.
The project should be connected to the mobility stations, where car sharing cars could also be located.
20 parking spaces are planned, said building authority manager Johannes Dachsel.
The members of the transport committee voted unanimously in favor of citizen car sharing - although not without criticism.

“I would suggest that you don’t put the parking spaces in parking lots where there are already some,” emphasized trade representative Franz Höfelsauer (CSU).
“Otherwise we will lose parking spaces again.” Dachsel replied that the goal of car sharing is that one or two people do without their car.
“And if that works, we can use it to reduce the pressure on parking in public spaces,” said Dachsel.
Jan Halbauer (Greens) was skeptical that 20 places were not too few for a car sharing provider.
“The question arises as to whether they will even do it.”

According to the meeting template, the city is pursuing the idea of gradually expanding car sharing in the city area.
The only costs are for the signage of the car sharing parking spaces and for carrying out the selection process between the providers.
“Conversely, income of 30 euros per month per parking space can be generated for the city budget,” says the template.
The city would receive annual income of 7,200 euros from 20 car sharing spaces.
