Warm words instead of flowers: On Valentine's Day, Donald Trump sends his wife Melania a greeting of love - and thereby secretly calls for campaign donations.
Washington – Killed two birds with one stone: Donald Trump didn't forget Valentine's Day and, in good style, showed his wife Melania Trump a token of his love.
However, he doesn't seem to have been entirely unselfish.
In the public greeting, the former US President included a call for donations.
But why?
Is the possible candidate in the upcoming US election in 2024 now running out of money after many legal disputes?

In any case, the greeting of love causes a stir.

reports, Donald Trump's campaign team sent an email to all potential supporters on the morning of Valentine's Day with the subject: "I love you, Melania."

And the love greeting to his wife drips with happiness.
“Even after every single CHARGE, ARRESTS and witch hunt, you never left my side,” Trump writes – all capital letters included.
Without her support, he “wouldn’t be the man I am today.”
A few more vows of love follow.
Then comes the crucial note: “Please leave a few kind words for the First Lady this Valentine’s Day!”
The sentence is accompanied by a link that leads to Trump's donation page for the US election campaign.
There you can also send the ex-president's wife a few tokens of love - in the form of real American dollars.
The Trump team also conveniently has a list of recommendations ready.
Just $47 can be enough to send Melania some love.

Trump is considered a promising candidate in the US election next November.
The former US President is currently preparing to win the Republican primaries and take up the fight again with his successor Joe Biden.
But the election campaign is expensive - and Trump is gnawing at four lawsuits with 91 charges, including because of his involvement in the storming of the Capitol and allegations of sexual harassment.
Trump was recently ordered to pay more than $89 million in a defamation lawsuit.

So far, Trump has always been able to exploit the numerous lawsuits against him.
He regularly portrays himself publicly as a victim of a witch hunt and as a fighter against the Washington elite. When a police identification was carried out at a trial in Georgia and a so-called mugshot was published, donations for Trump skyrocketed, as the AP news agency

As a result, the Trump team had the photo printed on mugs and T-shirts - and collected up to seven million dollars extra.
But recently the flow has died down a bit.
According to a report by Reuters, only around 19 million euros flowed into Trump's campaign coffers in the fourth quarter of 2023.
He earned significantly less than his Republican challenger Nikki Haley, who received $24 million in the same period.
Both are far behind the incumbent.
Joe Biden received an impressive $97 million in donations.

But can Melania now turn things around?
There have been a lot of rumors lately about the former First Lady, who has made herself scarce in public.
When she wasn't pictured in a recent family photo, there was speculation that she was about to get a divorce.
However, the explanation was different: the former presidential wife had to go to the hospital to see her mother, who has now died.
Her husband explained this following the fuss.
Melania did what she always does: she remained silent.
Against this background, we will probably never know what she thinks of the ambiguous greeting of love for Valentine's Day.
