As a result of his victory, the Republicans will lose a seat. However, Suozzi's victory poses a problem for Biden.
Washington, DC – With Tom Suozzi's victory in New York's by-election to the US Congress, the Republican majority in the US House of Representatives is melting away.
The Democrat won the seat after Republican George Santos was forced to vacate his seat.
According to an investigation by the
New York Times
, Santos had falsified large parts of his CV, after which the House of Representatives removed him from office in a vote and called for new elections.
Suozzi's victory reveals a problem to Biden: the issue of migration
Suozzi was now able to win the Long Island swing district by a large margin.
The majority of Republicans in the House of Representatives is now only 219 to 213 seats.
Still, Suozzi's victory could turn out to be a problem for President Joe Biden.
Above all, his harsh tone on the subject of migration allowed him to steal votes from his Republican opponent.
The refugees at the Mexican border are the biggest point of contention in the current political climate in the USA.
Biden's immigration chief criticized
Impeachment proceedings against Biden's immigration chief were initiated in the House of Representatives just last Wednesday.
The divide between Democrats and Republicans is deep.
Suozzi took advantage of this.
Democratic strategist Michael Gordon told
Newsweek
, "Suozzi had an effective strategy, which is often a good way to go when the president is unpopular."
As the presidential election in the USA slowly gains momentum, the tone is also becoming tougher.
The backbone of Donald Trump's campaign is currently the refugee crisis at the Mexican border.
Majority Leader Mike Johnson had already announced that he would block votes for the Ukraine-Israel aid package until border security with Mexico was restored.

Johnson said in a statement: "House Republicans have been clear from the outset of discussions that any so-called national security supplemental legislation must recognize that national security begins at our own border."

With Suozzi's victory in the special election, the Democrats are beginning to reorient themselves and rethink their stance on immigration.
According to Gallup, Biden's current poll numbers are at a record low.
Gallup's latest poll on Biden's approval rating was just 41 percent, while 54 percent were dissatisfied with Biden's job as president.
The most cited reason for dissatisfaction among Americans is the immigration issue at 19 percent.
Second place is far behind, the economy with only 9 percent.
Jeffrey Kraus, a Wagner College political science professor, noted on
Newsweek
that if "Biden's poll numbers don't improve" then Democrats in swing districts will focus more on local issues and try to distance themselves from the president.
