First proud wedding in the Haifa municipality building/"most of the city"

Activities and activists of the "Rob Ha'ir" movement, which is contesting the elections to be held for the Haifa City Council on February 27, held a proud wedding this morning on the steps of the entrance to the city hall, to demand that the city adopt an urban agenda that promotes full equality for all communities, including the LGBT community. At the event Ahinoam Katz and Jordan Baruch got married - in the first proud wedding of its kind in the city hall building.

Sally Abed, head of the "Most of the City" list, married the two couples: "The city of Haifa undertakes to give you a home.

A house where you can live with dignity, safety and love.

A stable house that stands on reliable public infrastructure.

A house you can afford, and you won't have to protect it from the claws of real estate agents from Tel Aviv.

A house that you can reach on safe streets, by public transport, through urban nature.

A house in a neighborhood that enjoys all the resources available to the public, whose residents are not discriminated against because of their status, nationality or religion.

In a city where Arab, Jewish, LGBT, ultra-Orthodox, single-parent families - all live together in respect, recognition, equality and peace. What you deserve is your right, and this is what we all deserve. A common and safe home for Arabs and Jews, LGBT and straight, men and women, children and the elderly.

Amen!".

The "Most of the City" movement mentions that in the last term the municipality took an important step, and decided to allow LGBT couples to register as publicly known: "The great majority of the city's residents support full equality of rights, including gay marriage, and it is time for the conduct of the municipality to reflect this, also in where the resources and budgets are distributed.

We would like to see the establishment of an emergency urban hostel for proud youth, including special accommodations for proud youth from Palestinian society.

It is also necessary to thicken the municipal welfare system, to promote educational programs in the schools that promote openness and acceptance towards the gay community, and for the municipality to invest in a local proud culture - not only in the pride parade, but throughout the year."

Earlier this week, activists of the "Most of the City" movement held a demonstration Outside the home of city council member Yoav Ramati, who is running as a representative of Itamar Ben Gvir's party, in protest of what he said in a recent interview against the Haifa Pride Parade. According to the activists, they intend to encourage the public who support equality and democracy not to show indifference and participate in the city council elections, to prevent political parties from that the worldview encourages discrimination from winning achievements in these elections.
