Genoa European capital of sport 2024 "to grow, develop and build its future".
This is the message launched on the occasion of the national presentation of the event which presents a rich program also aimed at enhancing tourism in the Ligurian capital: more than 100 events of 32 sports disciplines, under the aegis of 28 sports federations.
All for a forecast of economic impact on the territory, currently correlated only to the estimated overnight stays, which exceeds 9 million euros in direct revenue to which other expenditure items made by athletes, tourists and visitors as well as indirect expenses will have to be added.
At the presentation in the 'belly' of the Olimpico in Rome, together with the mayor
Marco Bucci,
there were the ministers for Sport and Youth
Andrea Abodi
and Tourism
Daniela Santanché,
the deputy minister of Infrastructure
Edoardo Rixi
, the presidents of the sports institutions
Marco Mezzaroma , Giovanni Malagò and Luca Pancalli
.
"In recent years, Genoa has been doing what seems extraordinary - said Abodi - It is giving continued entry into the Constitution of sport. This calendar of events demonstrates it, a sporting agenda which will have room for improvement, but which has already its stability and maturity. There is a future plan regardless of Pnrr. And this also applies to schools. Liguria for example is the first region in terms of presence of gyms in schools (60% on average against 40% of Italy, ed.). On the positive side, however, I see that all the regions are moving".
The calendar of activities and events is constantly evolving and updated on the website www.genovasport2024.it and on the social channels identified by the hashtag #genovasport2024.
"Sport helps people build their future, it has been like this in my life and I am happy to be able to do the same thing for the citizens of Genoa and all of Italy - said Mayor Bucci - This 2024 will be a year full of events winners, opportunities for development and social and economic growth for Genoa: today this presentation in Rome confirms the success of this great program that we have planned, demonstrating the growing international scope of our city".
From sport to tourism, Minister Santanchè appealed to Mayor Bucci on the need to have more hotels: "I believe that all this works as an accelerator, we need event accelerators to be able to create the infrastructures - Santanchè indicated - Not just the facilities sports but also airports, trains and accommodation facilities. And I use this event if I may to make an appeal to the mayor. There is a lack of hotels in Genoa, if they aren't there it becomes a problem."
