The World Social Forum "is an important space to make your voice heard, focus on the most vulnerable, restore hope and find innovative solutions for people and the planet."
These are the words of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres in the message to the World Social Forum which opened in Nepal.
“Uniting for the common good is critical as conflicts rage and geopolitical divisions grow. We need global solidarity to save the Sustainable Development Goals and reform an outdated, dysfunctional and unjust global financial system,” he added.
"We must also come together to tackle the climate crisis - urged Guterres - As I saw during my recent visit to Nepal, countries on the front lines of climate change require more support. My Climate Solidarity Pact urges large emitters" of greenhouse gases "to do extra efforts to reduce" greenhouse gases and "richer countries to support emerging economies do so".
Finally, "we must unite within communities - with a renewed social contract, based on trust, justice and inclusion and anchored in human rights. Women, young people and marginalized people must have a place at the decision-making table - said Guterres - A world of peace, dignity and sustainability is not only possible, it is necessary. Let's build it together."
