A lawyer who had been a fugitive from Justice for four years and was linked to former prosecutor Claudio Scapolan, dismissed for his drug ties, was on vacation in Mar del Tuyú and was detained by the Gendarmerie.
Thus, within the framework of judicial case No. 36447/129/2016 that is being processed in the federal justice system, investigative tasks were entrusted in order to determine the whereabouts of the lawyer Gustavo Alberto Semorile, a fugitive from justice and with a national arrest warrant, linked to important drug traffickers from the Buenos Aires suburbs and narcocriminal organizations such as the one led by former prosecutor Claudio Scalopán, and who was once a defense attorney for Carlos Telleldin, accused in the AMIA case.
After these months of criminal intelligence tasks, they geolocated the lawyer, who was in the town of Mar de Tuyú, and had been intensely wanted since 2020, proceeding to his arrest while he was circulating in the summer city.
Over the course of these months, we worked in coordination with the Gendarmerie investigators and the Criminal Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Security, exchanging information with international police forces, since there were strong indications about his possible permanence outside the country. , more precisely in Paraguay.
Thus, data began to emerge in telephone interventions about small circles of people involved, to determine common places that the "Lawyer" frequented.
One of the properties located in Mar de Tuyú, a town in the Partido de la Costa, province of Buenos Aires, was the place where the troops deployed a surveillance operation and managed to arrest the drug lawyer.
The officers, having precise information that Semorile could be at that address, set up a fixed surveillance team of said property.
Thus, at noon they observed the fugitive leaving the property, proceeding to arrest him, leaving him incommunicado.
Dr. Emiliano Canicoba, the magistrate involved in the case, ordered that the arrested person be transferred to the Investigation Squad in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro where he will remain at the disposal of justice.
In relation to the case linked to the dismissed prosecutor Claudio Scapolán and his alleged links with an "illicit association" related to drug trafficking, federal judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado, who had initiated the investigations and was later replaced by Dr. Canicoba, has ruled preventive detention for 14 of the 15 defendants in the aforementioned judicial file.
The judge's decision was that two of Scapolán's collaborators, one of them a lawyer and nephew of two important San Isidro judges, ten Buenos Aires police officers and two civilians, all accused of their alleged participation in this illicit association, will remain under preventive detention.
This judicial measure is in addition to the dismissal of prosecutor Claudio Scapolán for irregularities and participation in serious crimes, a decision made by the Jury for the Prosecution of Magistrates and Officials of the province of Buenos Aires on April 17, 2023.
