You have to discover a “lost” painter-farmer from Chiemsee, take a new look at world-famous expressionists - and then you can also immerse yourself in the worlds of “Sam” and Karl Valentin.

There's a lot going on this year at the Buchheim Museum.

Bernried – No question: you will probably have to plan several visits to the Buchheim Museum this year.

And that doesn't just apply to declared art lovers.

Bookworms, history freaks, children and everyone who likes to laugh will also get their money's worth in the World Museum on Lake Starnberg.

And a few more.

At least that's what the company's freshly printed annual program promises, which, after the dismissal of Daniel J. Schreiber, is still led by an interim director, namely Erich Schneider.

This program also features quite surprising names such as Paul Maar and Karl Valentin.

A discovery: The painter-farmer from Chiemsee

But let's start with a lesser-known artist who urgently needs to be discovered: From March 2nd, the painter-farmer Franz S. Gebhardt-Westerbuchberg (1895-1969) from Chiemsee will be introduced, a member of the “lost generation”. the Joseph Hierling collection brought so richly and expressively to the Buchheim Museum.

The oil painting “Last Self-Portrait on March 1st, 1968” by Franz S. Gebhardt-Westerbuchberg is part of the exhibition about the painter-farmer from March 2nd.

While a studio exhibition from March 16th examines the role of museum founder Lothar-Günther Buchheim on the art market and explains the house's provenance research, a large show from April 27th compares important works from the Buchheim collection with new acquisitions.

Selected pieces from the museum's Expressionist treasures are also presented in a “Director's Cut” throughout the year.

And from September 28th, pictures and frames by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner will come into view, “rediscovered and reunited”.

A celebration for families: “The World of Paul Maar”

Over the summer, the Buchheim Museum will be a magnet for families and will take you into “The World of Paul Maar”, the writer, illustrator and “Sams” inventor (from June 29th).

At the same time, the “Drawer Works” show lets objects by unknown people and celebrities see the light of day for the very first time.

For example, Reinhold Messner's sketchbook, a work by Erwin Wurm and a surprise by Lothar-Günther Buchheim are on display.

And from August 31st, in collaboration with the “Forum Humor and Comic Art”, everything about “Karl Valentin and Music” will be available - including parts of the estate that is in the Theater Studies Collection in Cologne.
