A terrible tragedy occurred on Wednesday in the Isola 2000 ski area (Alpes-Maritimes).
In circumstances which remain unclear at this stage, two young women violently collided on skis, at midday and in clear weather.

One of the two victims, aged 23, did not survive.
The other, aged 17, suffered lighter injuries.

, observes a gendarme from the High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) of Digne-les-Bains, mobilized on place Wednesday with several of his colleagues.
In all likelihood, the collision would have taken place at the junction of two tracks, at the Valette crossing.
“There is a strong chance that the two victims, who had each taken one of the routes, did not see each other
,” comments another police source.

Spine trauma
Supported by a team of trackers, several first aiders from the station, Samu 06, then the gendarmes, the 23-year-old victim was intubated on site then airlifted in a state of absolute emergency to the Pasteur hospital in Nice. .
“She was immediately admitted to intensive care for spinal trauma
,” indicates an emergency source.
Originally from Fréjus and seasonal in the Maralpine resort, the latter died shortly after her arrival.
“She was helmeted and equipped as it should be
,” specifies the same source.
“She is a young woman who was obviously well known in Isola.
The trackers knew her, they were very shocked
,” adds the PGHM gendarme.
Regarding the 17-year-old teenager, she was also treated for lighter injuries, particularly trauma to the forearm.
An investigation has been opened to shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.
