For the moment, “no swimming” signs are as omnipresent as they are little respected during the summer period.
But from June 21, the pool located at the foot of the MuCEM at the entrance to the Old Port and the industrial port of Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône) will become an official and free seawater swimming pool, equipped and monitored until the end of the bathing season.
Following the models of Amsterdam and Quebec, Marseille is therefore launching a swimming area in a port area, "whose water quality is superior to other Marseille beaches", according to the sea deputy Hervé Menchon, to compensate the glaring lack of beaches in the center and northern districts of the Phocaean city.
