Benediktbeuern – The construction of a container facility for refugees in Benediktbeuern is taking shape.

The building committee approved the district's building application.

Space for around 80 people is to be created on Meichelbeckstrasse.

New refugee accommodation in Benediktbeuern: space for 80 refugees - container probably not ready before mid-2024

Just over a year ago, Mayor Toni Ortlieb (BBV) informed the local councilors that, according to the distribution key, Benediktbeuern does not accommodate enough asylum seekers.

A quick solution was needed.

A facility on Meichelbeckstrasse not far from the monastery was preferred.

Specifically, it is to be built on a meadow north of the river master's office.

Now, a year later, the building committee approved a corresponding building application from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district.

Four people should live together in a type of apartment.

In order for the community to have a security service, the container system had to be designed for 80 people.

The next step is to examine the building application by the district office.

“Only then can we put the contract out to tender,” says Ortlieb.

He assumes that the facility will not be ready before the middle of the year.

When asked, the town hall boss said he didn't know which nationalities would move in.

It gets “really stupid” when families with younger children who need a place in kindergarten move in.

Especially since both of the community's facilities were affected by the hailstorm.

According to Ortlieb, the insurance covered 240,000 euros for the carpentry and plumbing work on the community kindergarten.

“In addition, we invested another around 60,000 euros in good insulation,” said the mayor.

The west wing of the Don Bosco kindergarten can no longer be saved and requires a new building.

“Berlin is making progress and we have to implement it.”

Benediktbeuern's mayor Toni Ortlieb

Ortlieb simply feels left alone by the federal government: “Berlin is making progress, and we have to implement it.” The municipality owns the area, but will lease it to the district “for a limited period of five years,” the mayor informed in the latest Municipal council meeting.

When Stefan Geiger asked who would have to take care of the dismantling of the facility after the contract expired, the town hall boss replied that this was an obligation of the district - and therefore had to be stipulated accordingly in the lease agreement that had yet to be signed.

Building application for new refugee accommodation in Benediktbeuern approved: municipality has reported property

Ortlieb was at least able to console the local council members by saying that it was a wise decision that the community reported the property “and not someone else” to the district office.

If a property developer had done it, “we would no longer have been able to control the situation”.

Ortlieb's hope for a solution in Berlin was also rather muted at the local council meeting.

Decisions made at the top should be organized at the bottom, said the town hall boss.

Alluded to the farmers' protests: "A lot of things are dying down in Berlin."
