Stephanie Strein is the new head of the vocational schools for nursing and geriatric care assistance in Penzberg with currently 75 students.
The 40-year-old has been working there since 2016, with parental leave interrupted. In an interview with the local newspaper, she promotes the nursing profession: “It has many beautiful sides.”
Penzberg – Stephanie Strein has been the head of the vocational schools for nursing and geriatric care assistance in Penzberg since the end of November, succeeding Christine Zürr.
The 40-year-old comes from Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
She trained as a nurse at the Garmisch Clinic from 2000 to 2003.
As a result, she worked in this profession and also completed her high school diploma.
The mother of three children has lived in Penzberg since 2007.
She came to the Penzberg vocational school in 2016. She started there as a teacher, alongside her bachelor's degree in nursing education.
Two vocational schools in Penzberg, one for nursing, one for geriatric care assistance
To be more precise, the vocational school in Penzberg is two vocational schools, one for nursing and one for geriatric care assistance.
Unfortunately, this always gets a little lost in public, says Stephanie Strein.
The schools belong to the Rummelsberger Diakonie.
The school location on the “Steigenberger Hof” site on Seeshaupter Straße has existed since 1998.
Currently 75 men and women in training
16 men and women are currently completing one-year training there to become nursing assistants in geriatric care or nursing.
A further 59 students complete the three-year “generalist” training to become nursing specialists and nursing specialists, which enables them to later work in geriatric care as well as nursing or pediatric nursing.
As reported, the first “nursing generalists” graduated last year.
There are currently 14 teachers working at the two vocational schools in Penzberg in different disciplines and with different numbers of hours.
“A “very people-oriented profession”
It is important to Stephanie Strein to promote the nursing profession - because it is usually talked about in public in connection with problems, not about its advantages.
The nursing profession needs a more positive image, she says.
Because he has “many beautiful sides”.
The new headmistress describes it as a “very people-oriented job, which can be very fulfilling”.
Supporting people in need of care is meaningful.
“You have so many opportunities in few professions”
According to her, the “generalistics” has also meant that graduates can change within the care areas and specialist departments and work in many areas, in hospitals, in pediatrics, in nursing homes, in outpatient services, in day care or in nursing advice.
“In few other professions you have so many opportunities,” she says.
Besides, you don't make too much money.
In the three-year nursing training it is over 1000 euros per month.
“Not all apprenticeships have that.”

Nursing staff should become more self-confident

A central point for Stephanie Strein is that the “generalist” training is not just school-based training, but rather a large part of it takes place in practical positions.
During the time of Stephan Meuß, who was headmaster in Penzberg until 2022, the Bad Tölz district office had created a “nursing training association” that was joined by nursing homes, outpatient services, clinics and schools in the region, including the hospitals in Penzberg and Wolfratshausen .
The students, who each have an employment contract with a nursing home, a clinic or an outpatient service, for example, can complete their practical assignments there in the other areas.
