A police officer was stabbed late Wednesday afternoon in Bénifontaine, in Pas-de-Calais,
Le Figaro
learned from a police source, confirming information from BFMTV.
Around 5:30 p.m., the police emergency service was called by a doctor requesting the compulsory hospitalization of his son, a 31-year-old man suffering from schizophrenia.
Immediately, a team of three police officers was dispatched to the thirty-year-old's home for the intervention.
They enter his room and are attacked by the man armed with a knife.
He
“threw himself on a colleague and stabbed him in the temple”
, specifies our source.
To end the attack, one of the officials took out his weapon and fired at least twice, hitting the assailant in the elbow and shoulder.
The man was arrested and taken to hospital, as was the injured police officer.
The latter's injury was not life-threatening and was treated with stitches.
The General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN) opened an investigation to verify that the conditions for use of the weapon by the police officer were met.
