Highlights: Poing far away from its new development areas: searching for traces of the oldest house. The oldest houses in the community are or were on the south side of the railway line. Many of the earlier buildings have already been demolished and replaced with new ones or have been heavily remodeled. The old Moar Villa at Hauptstrasse 24 (at Maibaumplatz) is also still preserved. The inn with beer garden at the S-Bahn station in the Grub district is also very old.

There are many new houses in Poing due to the new development areas.

But which is the oldest residential building still standing?

It is, no surprise, in the southern, old part of the community.

Poing - While the next new houses in Poing are being built in the Lerchenwinkel development area, the oldest houses in the community are or were on the south side of the railway line.

Many of the earlier buildings have already been demolished and replaced with new ones or have been heavily remodeled.

But which is the oldest residential building in Poing that has been preserved to this day?

We asked the volunteer local researcher Peter Dreyer, who in response named the old schoolhouse at Schulstrasse 30 (not far from the town hall and Reuterpark).

This was built around 1873/74, until then the Poinger children had to go to school first in Anzing and later in Neufarn.

Poing's first schoolhouse was used until 1908.

There was a classroom for around 30 students on the first floor and the teacher's apartment on the ground floor.

When the Poinger school became too small, a new school building was built in 1907/08, reports Dreyer.

On the area where the town hall stands today.

Peter Dreyer names the other oldest and still preserved residential building on the corner of Plieninger Strasse and Hauptstrasse, on the ground floor of which the oldies bar is located.

This house, along with others on Bahnhofstrasse, was built during the construction of the railway in 1870/71.

All of them demolished or rebuilt over the years;

with the exception of the old station building, which has fallen into disrepair behind bushes on the southeast side of the station.

Even after it was built around 1879/80 as a station restaurant, the “Oldies” building was a place where food and drinks were available.

Especially for the train passengers and the staff.

The old Moar Villa at Hauptstrasse 24 (at Maibaumplatz) is also still preserved.

The building, built in 1906 by master builder Josef Lanzl (Poing), was renovated in 2015, but “except for the windows, it still looks exactly the same as it did back then,” praises local historian Peter Dreyer.

Time travel

Anyone who would like to go on a journey through time to historical places in the municipality of Poing, on foot or by bike, can do so using the cultural route, which leads through Poing-Süd as well as Angelbrechting and Grub.

The history of the respective building or place is explained using information boards at various locations.

More information about the route at

The inn with beer garden at the S-Bahn station in the Grub district is also very old.

The railway and gate attendant's house (on the south side of the Grub S-Bahn stop) and the restoration building with a veranda on the north side were built around 1880, after the opening of the Munich East – Mühldorf railway line in 1871.

The Poing community has bought an old school building

In the municipality of Poing there is another old, in this case former, inn: the Gasthof Ascherl in the Angelbrechting district.

This tavern was built in 1904 by Wolfgang and Maria Ascherl.

105 years later, in 2009, the business was closed, but the guesthouse continues to operate.

Back to the old school: In 2017, the municipality of Poing acquired the property including the historic building.

“The purchase is intended to ensure the long-term preservation of this historically valuable property,” says the municipality’s website.

Local historian Peter Dreyer is particularly pleased that the municipality has acquired the old school building.

And it goes on to say on www.poing.de: “The rental agreement with the current tenants of the residential and commercial premises has been taken over.

In the long term, public use is only planned after the tenants have moved out, for example for a small local museum.”
