Highlights: Security agreement planned between Ukraine and France: Zelenskyj travels to Paris. Germany's Chancellor Scholz is also waiting for a visit from Kiev. The agreement follows “the commitments that were made in the G7 format on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023,” it said from the Elysée Palace. On Friday, Zelenskyj wants to travel to Paris and sign a joint agreement with Macron - Chancellor Scholz is also waiting for a visit from Kiev.

Berlin - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj will visit Germany and France on Friday (February 16) to meet with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and French President Emmanuel Macron.

In addition, Zelenskyj will appear at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday and hold talks with US Vice President Kamala Harris, Zelenskyj's office announced on Thursday.

The French presidency said Zelensky and Emmanuel Macron would sign a bilateral security agreement when they met in Paris.

The agreement follows “the commitments that were made in the G7 format on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Vilnius in July 2023,” it said from the Elysée Palace.

In Vilnius, the G7 states committed themselves to Kiev to develop security guarantees for the period after the war against Russia.

A month ago, Macron promised Ukraine a support agreement similar to the one Great Britain had sealed with the country attacked by Russia.

Zelensky meets Macron: France wants to provide permanent military support to Ukraine

The agreement between Great Britain and Ukraine stipulates that London will support Ukraine now, but also in possible future conflicts with Russia.

This is about quick and lasting military aid, not about deploying British soldiers.

At the meeting between Macron and Zelensky, the French president wants to emphasize again that France is determined to support Ukraine in the long term.

The two also want to talk about the situation on the front, Ukraine's military, economic and humanitarian needs and the EU accession negotiations.

Friday's meeting will be Zelensky's third visit to Paris since the start of the Ukraine war.
