Winter will probably not make a comeback in February.
Before the weekend the weather will be really warm again.
And even then it only cools down moderately.
Kassel – Last weekend, a “Canary Islands jet” brought extremely mild weather with temperatures of almost 20 degrees to Germany.
These days in mid-February are exceptionally warm for winter.
Another preliminary peak of this heat peak in February is likely to be reached on Friday (February 16th).
And even if the temperatures are likely to drop again towards the end of the month, the weather in February will probably remain record-breaking.

Unusually warm February weather: up to 18 degrees on Thursday (February 15)
According to meteorologist Dominik Jung, the highest recorded low temperatures in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia were 12 degrees on the night of Thursday (February 15).
Even the lowest measured low values were all in the plus range, with the exception of two measuring stations, including the one on the Zugspitze.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the currently measured minimum temperatures correspond approximately to the maximum temperatures that would actually be expected at this time of year based on the climate averages.
Deep “Rixa” was responsible for the exceptionally mild February temperatures.
Along the Rhine, the temperatures rose to up to 18 degrees during the day.
This means that we are “within touching distance of the temperature records for the second decade of February,” the dpa quotes meteorologist Felix Dietzsch from the weather forecast center in Offenbach.
Mild February reaches its final peak on Friday (February 16th).
Friday (February 16th) is likely to be the warmest day of this weather week, predict weather expert Jung and the DWD.
According to Jung, the maximum values should be between 13 and 15 degrees.
If Dietzsch has his way, the temperature maximum should be in central Germany.
For the meteorologist, the northern edge of the Harz and the Thuringian Saale Valley around Jena in particular are “hot candidates for the highest temperatures” of up to 19 degrees.
It remains unclear whether the 20 degree mark will be broken, says the meteorologist: “You can’t completely rule it out.”

At the weekend it cools down a bit, then Deep “Rixa” brings cooler Atlantic air from the northwest.
According to the DWD, this creates an elongated band of rain that crosses Germany from west to east.
The exceptionally mild weather in Germany will continue on Saturday, although temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 14 degrees.
Jung notes that there is still “no drastic cooling in sight”.
A return of wintry temperatures in February is probably off the table, as the weather expert states when looking at the ensemble forecasts.

It is one of the warmest February months in recorded history.
According to Jung, that much is already certain.
According to DWD meteorologists, it is not yet certain whether there will be enough to set a new record at the end of the month given the announced drop in temperatures.
The warmest February months in German measurement history so far:
1990 - Average temperature: 5.7 degrees
2020 - Average temperature: 5.3 degrees

The average temperature in February has currently settled between six and seven degrees, well above the previous record month from 1990. This means that the second half of the month will consume the excess temperature of the previous 15 days to such an extent that February 2024 will be out of the top 3 of the warmest February months According to the DWD, there would have to be a “cold air period lasting several days”.
But this is not yet in sight, at least not yet.
After all, long-term weather models would indicate that the average temperatures in March and April are likely to be more normal.
