Farmers protesting against Europeanand national farm policies arrived at the Circus Maximus in Romefor a major demonstration Thursday waving placards saying "wheatis our gold", "our job is not a hobby", "no to uncultivatedland" and "who's seen sovereignty and Made in Italy ?".
The farmers, from the Farmers Betrayed movement, are among a number of groups not mollified by government income tax cuts, while some other groups have called off their protests.
The 15 tractors displayed Italian flags as they made their waythrough Rome to the ancient Roman chariot racing course.
The OtherAgriculture group protested with two tractors at theColosseum saying "we're not satisfied with sops; we want realreforms".
Meanwhile there were similar protests in many other Italiancities including Mantua, Barletta, and Caltanissetta, as well as Sardinia.
Actress Ornella Muti was among the demonstrators in the Piedmonttown of Tortona.
