The German ESC preliminary decision is coming up!

Who moderates, who is a guest, and who sings and when?

The starting order is not without criticism.

Berlin - Who can dare to try to make Germany forget the disastrous results of previous years at the Eurovision Song Contest on May 11, 2024 in Malmö?

The answer will be available on Friday evening (February 16th) in the show “Eurovision Song Contest - The German Final 2024”.

But ESC fans have to bring a little bit of patience with them: it starts at 10:05 p.m., and the winning act won't be known until around midnight.

The show from Berlin runs live on Erste and One, as well as streaming on

eurovision.de

and in the ARD media library.

ESC preliminary decision: Barbara Schöneberger moderates, Florian Silbereisen makes a guest appearance

Nine acts will be there - and also some guests, some of whom are more prominent than the participants.

The show is moderated by Barbara Schöneberger (49), who caused a scandal at the German ESC preliminary round last year.

She welcomes TV presenter Florian Silbereisen (42), pop legend Mary Roos (75), entertainer Riccardo Simonetti (30), singer Alli Neumann (2), last year's participants Lord Of The Lost and the “I want to go to the ESC!” Coaches Conchita Wurst (35) and Rea Garvey (50).

ESC preliminary decision: The starting order was by no means drawn

Who should you pay particular attention to?

Of course, Max Mutzke (42), who had already taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 and took an impressive eighth place.

Then to Marie Reim (23) – the daughter of Matthias Reim (66) and Michelle (52) tries it with a powerful, booming hit.

But the betting odds favorite is someone else: the three betting providers evaluated on eurovisionworld.com see Ryk (34) ahead with his delicate electro-pop song “Oh Boy”.

Who sings when?

Anyone who doesn't have much to do with the ESC might think that the starting order was perhaps drawn.

But far from it!

This is not the case with the European ESC final either.

Eurovision.de

explains: “The order of appearances in the German final was determined by the ESC editorial team for dramaturgical reasons and taking organizational and structural issues into account.”

ESC preliminary decision: The starting order

  • NinetyNine - Love On A Budget

  • Leona - Undream You

  • Isaak - Always On The Run

  • Gallant - cat

  • Floryan-Scars

  • Bodine Monet - Tears Like Rain

  • Ryk - Oh boy

  • Marie Reim - Naive

  • Max Mutzke - Forever Strong

You must have thought of something.

    The specialist portal

    esc-kompakt.de

analyzes that “the best-known names were placed at the end of the starting field”.

The change in genre and gender during the show ensures that “it remains entertaining for the audience”.

ESC preliminary decision: starting order receives criticism, but also praise

Even in the comments on the portal, not all ESC fans like the starting order in the German preliminary round.

“Aha, so we get 5 cannon fodder up front and then the 4 favorites at the end.

    Very original.

    *Irony off*,” one complains.

Another says: “I think we should loosen the order here.

The two best-known and the two favorites in a row are difficult to justify in a neutral way.”

Others think it's perfect like this: "I think the order is totally logical, putting the two favorites and then the two best-known names at the end is a really good solution." And one writes: "Quite a lot of Mimimi here... The starting order is absolutely fine in order.

With nine acts there isn't much variance possible.” There would probably be complaints about any starting order.

Meanwhile, an ESC legend doesn't have such nice words to say about Marie Reim.
