The Ziachfreunde Fraunberg were founded in 1984.

They have been inspiring young and old with their music for 40 years. A large Hoagarten is planned for their special birthday.

Fraunberg/Oberbierbach – The Fraunberger Ziachfreunde have been inspiring young and old with their music for 40 years. To mark the occasion, there will be a large Hoagarten again this year, announced Ziach boss Hans Huber at the first musicians' get-together this year.

After this announcement, the musicians unpacked their instruments and - as they have done for 40 years - they sang together in the crowded pub.

The enthusiastic guests applauded after each piece.

The success story of the Fraunberger Ziachfreunde began on January 29, 1984 in the then newly built Fraunberger Gasthaus Stulberger with Helmut Lechner, Erich Weber, Herbert Schwarz and Bartholomäus Ott.

After their Styrian harmonica training at the district music school with music teacher Werner Keck, the four founding members decided to continue meeting once a month to make music together.

They originally even planned to found a club, but that never happened.

The new regulars' table in Fraunberg quickly made the rounds.

The Ziach players Hans Zeiler († 2020), Xaver Heigl, Werner Keck and even well-known players such as Franz Schnelzer, Kurt Leneis and Sepp Berger were now regular guests.

New musicians continued to come to Fraunberg, and a colorful group also formed with other instruments - tuba, tenor horn, guitar.

The annual highlight from 1990 was a large autumn hoa garden with venison ragout with Hauberlinge.

Unforgettable, how Maria Mayr-Lechner, Rudi Brandlhuber, Max Lehmer, Hennamo Georg Lainer and, most recently, the writer Wolfgang Hofer led the program as speakers.

To this day, around 15 musicians from young to old meet regularly to play music together, now in the Gasthaus Strasser in Oberbierbach.

“We are particularly pleased that founding member Helmut Lechner still comes to the regulars’ meetings every now and then,” said Huber.

The Ziach boss, who lives in Wartenberg, reported: “When I was young, Hubert von Goisern and his Alpinkatzen in the Erdinger Stadthalle thrilled me with the Ziach.

It wasn't until years later that I attended the regulars' table in Fraunberg.

There I was persuaded to learn the Styrian harmonica when I was over 40,” which he did under the guidance of Hans Zeiler and annual folk music seminars, especially at the Landshut Folk Music Association.

After Corona, it took a while until pub music was possible again - unthinkable with a mask.

“With Oberbierbach and in Pfrombach, where Ziachfreunde are also based, we now even have two regulars’ get-togethers and musician-friendly hosts every month,” said Huber.

On the first Sunday of the month we meet at the Strasser in Oberbierbach, and on the third Sunday of the month at the Sainer inn in Pfrombach.

Young Ziach players in particular are particularly encouraged to play pieces by Herbert Pixner, who made the Styrian harmonica really popular.

Huber is proud of his performances at the Ukraine charity event in Oberbierbach and his participation in the annual Erdinger Folk Music Days.

Some Ziachfreunde also have their own music groups.
