Thanks to Anita Neuhaus, a ramp was built at Lake Karlsfelder so that wheelchair users can also slide into the water.
The long-time representative for the disabled is particularly proud of this achievement.

The long-standing Karlsfeld disability representative Anita Neuhaus (85) explains why volunteering was often frustrating for her and reveals what she wants for her successors.
Karlsfeld – The position of disability representative in Karlsfeld has been vacant for almost a year.
Anita Neuhaus, who had diligently taken on the voluntary role for over 20 years, resigned from her position last year.
In an interview with the Dachauer Nachrichten, the 85-year-old takes stock of two decades of work with the disabled in Karlsfeld.
She talks about tasks, why volunteering was often frustrating for her and what she hopes for her successors.
Why did you volunteer for years as a disability representative?
Anita Neuhaus: Because my mother was deaf, I learned from an early age how to deal with the challenges and needs of people with disabilities.
Due to my work on the local council and as a social officer, it was natural for me to also get involved in the social sector.
When the position of disability representative was created for the first time around 20 years ago, I took on this position.

So the office didn't exist before?
Yes, exactly.
There used to be no representative for the disabled in our community.
Actually every community should have one.
When I was asked whether I could take on the position, it was natural for me that I would also support the interests of people with disabilities in Karlsfeld.
What were your tasks as disability representative for Karlsfeld?
I was a contact point for people with disabilities or their relatives.
I helped them with various needs, be it getting a wheelchair or applying for a disability card.
I also campaigned for the accessibility of public facilities in Karlsfeld.

Anita Neuhaus talks about the successes of her work
What have you achieved in all these years?
Unfortunately, it wasn't always easy, but when people came to me with their concerns, I did my best to help them.
I organized financial support, for example for dental treatment.
A great success, for example, was that a ramp was built at Lake Karlsfelder so that wheelchair users can slide into the water.
I also campaigned for a bench to be set up at the lake specifically for people with disabilities.
But that was difficult and I had to follow up very often and persistently.
Local councilors have not always appreciated the work
How was your work perceived by the local council?
The current local council takes the needs of people with disabilities seriously.
That was different in the past.
I used to be more on my own and my work wasn't always appreciated.
Sometimes I would have liked more support.
What advice would you give to your successors?
I wish them a long breath.
And I hope that they will be listened to more than I was back then.
However, I have the feeling that the current local council is more open and recognizes the importance of a disability representative, which was not always the case in the past.
