Big scare for the Lyon police officers the day after the knife attack on one of their colleagues in La Rochelle.
A man tried to force the parking lot of the staff of the Marius Berliet police headquarters, in the 8th arrondissement of Lyon, Thursday evening, by hitting the barrier with his vehicle, according to information from the SGP Police union confirmed to Le
Figaro
.
Vehicle inside which a 7.65 semi-automatic handgun was found.
“There was one bullet engaged in the chamber and five in the magazine
,” explains
Sébastien Gendraud, deputy departmental secretary of the union, to Le
Figaro .
And in violation of a ban on carrying weapons
.
Because the 35-year-old suspect is known to the police, in particular for “violence against people holding public authority”.
He was placed in police custody after his arrest for “damage to property”, “aggravated violence”, and “carrying a weapon in violation of a ban”.
Messy explanation
It was the agent at the entrance gate of this police station - the main one in Lyon, which notably houses the PJ - who intervened.
“He notifies the station manager, comes up to the driver who then tries to turn around
,” describes Sébastien Gendraud.
At this point, the officer thinks he will try to enter through another entrance.
He draws his weapon to freeze the situation.
It was only upon palpation that he discovered the driver's weapon.
The union praised
“the action of the colleague, demonstrating exemplary composure, courage, professionalism and responsiveness”
.
“Without his intervention, the consequences could have been much more serious
,” writes SGP Police on its Facebook page.
The suspect's alcohol and drug tests were negative.
His first, messy hearings did not make it possible to determine the reasons for his action.
He was still in custody this Friday morning.
