The Kaufbeuren Nature Conservation Association criticizes the clear-cutting of trees in the post office area and gives tips for insect paradises on the balcony and in the garden.

Kaufbeuren - At the annual general meeting of the Kaufbeuren local group of the Federal Nature Conservation Association (BN) in the Ikigai restaurant, in addition to the regular reports and votes, there were also tips from organic beekeeper Christian Sedlmaier on how to create paradise for insects on the balcony or in the garden.

Tips from the beekeeper at the annual general meeting of the Kaufbeuren Federation of Nature Conservation

After a short welcome, Otto Mayr was honored for his 50 years of membership and Monika Schubert for her 30 years of membership.

Afterwards, beekeeper Sedlmaier impressed with facts about the life of insects.

Times have been becoming increasingly difficult for the humming and buzzing animals for many years, habitats are being lost and climate change is threatening the reproduction of bumblebees and bees.

Paradise for insects on the balcony or in the garden - absolutely everyone can contribute something good

The good news: Anyone with a garden or balcony can help the animals with relatively simple means.

Native wildflowers can be sown in the flower box instead of geraniums and in the garden you can plant native flowering shrubs such as cornelian cherries instead of forsythia or magnolias, cultivate fruit trees and berry bushes and pay particular attention to old, unfilled varieties of flowers.

If you then create a few wild corners in the garden for hedgehogs, toads and other small animals, you also support the local flora and fauna.

After the lecture, the club members voted for the new cashier Eva Schürmann and looked back with chairman Tilman Wernicke on the one hand to 2023 and then forward to events in 2024. Marita Knauer from the horticultural association held out the prospect of a trip to Wangen to the state horticultural show.

Martina Wischhöfer provided information about the beginning of the amphibian migration and asked for support in collecting.

Clear-cutting at the post office – scolding of the Kaufbeuren Nature Conservation Union for felling trees

Recently there was a discussion about the current tree felling in the city area.

When asked, Wischhöfer said that

the clear-cutting on the post office area (the

district messenger reported in detail) came as a complete surprise to the BN.

The felling of healthy trees in particular is “absolutely incomprehensible”.

Like all city trees, they not only provided shade and stored water, they also served as pollutant filters and suppliers of oxygen and as a habitat for many animal species.

It will take decades before replanting can compensate for the loss, according to the statement from the Federal Nature Conservation Association.
