Verdi has announced strikes in retail for this Friday.
H&M in Kaufbeuren would also be affected.
They don't seem to know anything there.
Kaufbeuren – The service company Verdi recently announced strikes in retail again for today, February 16th.
The H&M branch in Kaufbeuren should also be affected.
But they don't seem to know anything about it there.
No Verdi warning strike at H&M in Kaufbeuren on Friday: Bad communication?
Friday, 10:30 a.m., the sun is shining and a number of people are shopping in the pedestrian zone.
The H&M branch on Schmiedgasse can also enjoy brisk customer traffic.
The workforce for whom Verdi wants to strike for higher wages says they know nothing about a strike.
The managing director is not available for an interview upon request.
Since April, independent collective bargaining has been taking place in Bavaria for employees in retail and mail order, wholesale and foreign trade.
The offers from the employers' associations ranged between 4.5 and 5.3 percent wage increases in 2023. In some cases, the offers were supplemented by inflation compensation bonuses of less than 1,000 euros.
For the second year, employers offered increases of between 2.9 and 3.1 percent.
Not enough for Verdi.
In order to avoid future poverty in old age, the union says it is demanding an hourly wage of 2.50 euros more, but at least 400 euros per month.
Since the employers left the negotiating table at the end of last year, the strike is now set to continue.
At least the H&M workforce, which took part in a strike last June, does not seem to know anything about the call this time.
Such calls do not seem to have caught on with other companies in the region either; a strike call at the Ihle bakery branches in Ostallgäu had already failed in January (we reported).
