From the end of February, a special aircraft will circle over the rooftops of Nuremberg and the neighboring districts for ten days.

The reason is simple.

Nuremberg – People in the city of Nuremberg and surrounding districts will have to prepare for a little more noise from the end of February.

The reason: A specially converted Basler BT-67 propeller aircraft will spend ten days “exploring the potential for the use of environmentally friendly geothermal energy,” according to the energy supplier N-Ergie.

According to the statement, the aircraft will “fly and survey the area to be examined in a linear pattern.”

In addition to the city, the districts of Nürnberger Land, Fürth, Forchheim, Erlangen-Höchstadt, Roth, Neumarkt id Oberpfalz and Neustadt ad Aisch-Bad Windsheim are also affected by the measurements.

Airplanes fly over the Nuremberg city area: measurements between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m

“The flights at an altitude of at least 300 meters take place daily – including on weekends – between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

However, bad weather can delay flights,” the energy supplier explains.

“The measurements are passive and non-invasive.

No pictures or videos will be taken.”

Almost 200 square kilometers will be examined during the course of the campaign and geophysical information about the properties of the rock underground will be collected.

This ultimately creates geological maps that evaluate the geothermal energy potential.
