Alexeï Navalny began his dissidence against the Kremlin as a blogger, denouncing the corruption of the Russian regime, then took the lead in anti-Putin demonstrations in 2011. A candidate prevented from running in the 2013 presidential election, he was arrested at numerous times during demonstrations against the Kremlin and most likely poisoned with Novichok on August 20, 2020.
Two convictions followed, the first to nine years in prison in March 2022, the second in August 2023, this time to 19 years, the two being cumulative.
Transferred to a prison in the Arctic region, Alexeï Navalny called for a demonstration in view of the Russian presidential election in March 2024. He died this Friday, February 16 at the age of 47.
