The vandalism on the open space of the Wolfratshausen city library has reached a sad climax.

Unknown people demolished the garden two days in a row.

Wolfratshausen - A green oasis, accessible to everyone at any time: This is Silke Vogel's vision for the garden of the city library.

But there were always problems in this little paradise, explains the head of the city library.

Sometimes a deck chair disappeared, then cigarette butts littered the sandpit.

But in the night from Thursday to Friday “the situation escalated completely”.

Unidentified people set fire to a garbage can and several deck chairs - creating a new level of devastation.

One night before, on Thursday, things were not going well in the library garden.

“It seems that someone has thrown our flower pots around wildly,” says Vogel.

Some broke.

Earth sticks to the house facade.

The manager finds this “simply annoying and sad”.

On Friday morning, the caretaker discovered the next destruction.

In the herb circle, where in summer it smells of lavender, peppermint and arnica, a paper bin and several deck chairs were smoking.

The ashes were still glowing when the employee discovered the crime scene right next to the entrance.

He immediately notified the police, as Wolfratshausen police chief Marco Kasseckert confirmed.

According to him, the perpetrators burned at least three wicker chairs and a paper trash can.

“We were able to find evidence and are now hoping for DNA or fingerprints,” says Kasseckert.

The city filed a complaint against an unknown person and the investigation is ongoing.

Although the police are involved and there have already been cases of vandalism, Vogel is seriously worried.

“Two nights in a row: that makes you swallow.

Who knows what’s to come.” The melted plastic from the bin seeped into the paving stones.

“I don’t know how we’re going to fix it.” She doesn’t even want to think about how big the catastrophe would be “if a spark had found the roof of the library.”

Vogel and the library team have long worked to promote the public garden and welcome people of all ages.

“Especially families who don’t have a garden themselves.” But because of the ongoing destruction, they have already removed some deck chairs and there are no chair cushions left.

Since the last incident, the garden has been closed, as has the book return box.

Vogel: “There are a few that everyone suffers from.”
