The Starnberg district FDP celebrated political Ash Wednesday in the Andechs monastery inn.

The party honored social commitment and welcomed two guests of honor.

Andechs - When the district association of the FDP Starnberg invites you to the political Ash Wednesday, it is a long-standing tradition that a silver fish knife is awarded - for social commitment.

Guests of honor at the Andechs monastery inn were the FDP's Bavarian top candidate for the upcoming European elections, Phil Hackemann, and the Bavarian general secretary of the FDP, Christoph Skutella.

The evening was opened by Paul Friedrich, who, together with long-time chairwoman Britta Hundesrügge, forms a dual leadership at the Starnberg FDP.

He complained about the bureaucracy in the EU and defended the FDP's blockade of the supply chain law.

Hundesrügge then awarded the silver fish knife.

This year Ursel Wrede from Herrsching received it.

She has been running the “Women Helping Women Starnberg” association together with Liesel Baumann for six years.

Hundesrügge emphasized: “You are fulfilling a government mandate.”

The association works with women's shelters beyond the district.

Under Wrede's leadership, the women's emergency number was also introduced in the district.

Wrede also works as an asylum worker.

She has been accompanying a young man from Sierra Leone for several years.

Too much bureaucracy in the European Union

Like Skutella, Hackemann came from the FDP's political Ash Wednesday in Dingolfing.

The EU's leading candidate is currently chairman of the Bavarian state committee for foreign, European and security policy.

“We are for less bureaucracy in Europe,” he emphasized, defending, among other things, the rejection of the supply chain law.

It needs to be improved first.

“We are convinced Europeans and want to make Europe better.”

Hackemann himself studied European politics in England and experienced Brexit live on site.

That just made the importance of the EU clear to him once again.

“We stand for European unification and the achievements it has brought us.

But that doesn’t mean that everything in the EU is good.” Among other things, he complained about the high bureaucratic hurdles for entrepreneurs and farmers.

What the FDP wants to improve

Due to the current situation, Hackemann also emphasized that the EU must become stronger in foreign and security policy.

And: “We have better chances in the EU election campaign than some people say about us.” In this regard, Hackemann speaks of a “top duel of power women” and is referring to Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (FDP) and Ursula von der Leyen (CDU). .

Christoph Skutella, Bavarian Secretary General of the FDP

Skutella said, however, that the FDP needs to think about how it can develop further within the party with a view to the 2025 federal election.

The Secretary General also emphasized the importance of local politics.
