There have recently been more earthquakes in Austria and Bavaria, and now there is shaking in the Adriatic region.

On Friday (February 16), the authority recorded moderate intensity shocks.

Zadar – A series of earthquakes has been shaking the Alps since the beginning of January.

Experts are watching the quakes with concern that a catastrophe cannot be ruled out.

On the night of Friday (February 16th) the earth shook a lot further south.

As the Croatian news portal

reported, among others, the Adriatic region around the coastal city of Zadar was affected by the earthquakes.

Earth on the Adriatic coast shakes - felt around 60 kilometers away

In the early hours of the morning, the Seismological Service of the Republic of Croatia registered an earthquake of medium intensity.

According to the institute, a magnitude of 3.3 on the Richter scale was measured at the epicenter of the quake in the municipality of Zaton Obrovački, about 40 kilometers east of Zadar.

The effects were felt within a radius of 60 kilometers.

On the European Macroseismic Scale (EMS), the earthquake at the epicenter had a magnitude of 5 out of twelve.

Quakes of this magnitude are considered “strong” and are usually felt by people inside buildings.

In contrast to the Richter scale, the EMS describes the effects of an earthquake on the landscape, roads or buildings that can be perceived without instruments.

Specifically, for example, pieces of furniture can shift or fall over, and doors and windows can begin to shake.

According to several Croatian media, local residents also reported similar incidents.

Accordingly, there was “strong shaking” in the affected region and a rumbling could be clearly heard.

As a result of the violent quake around 3:40 a.m., there were a series of smaller aftershocks measuring 1.7 on the Richter scale.

According to experts, slight damage can occur from a strength of 3 to 4.

Earthquakes of a magnitude of 5 or more are generally dangerous for people. Most recently, the earthquakes in the tri-border triangle ranged between magnitudes 3 and 4. The effects of some recent earthquakes in Austria were recorded sporadically in Croatia, with one earthquake occurring shortly after Christmas “Explosion” the same.
