A real paradox.
Despite an unemployment rate of 5%, the lowest among all age categories, seniors experience the worst difficulties finding a job once registered with France Travail.
“In France the average duration of unemployment is one year;
for those over 55, this rises to 800 days
,” Marylise Léon, number one of the CFDT, regularly reminds us.
Many older employees, pushed out by their company, prefer not to start looking for a new position and choose to wait until retirement, taking advantage of the guarantees offered by unemployment insurance: duration of compensation longer, possibility of contributing up to the full rate... Terminations of contracts at the end of their career are also sometimes opportunistic, arising from a tacit agreement between the employee and the employer, in order to benefit from a form of " “Pôle emploi pre-retirement”.
As a result, the employment rate of 60-64 year olds in France remains at low levels compared to its European neighbors: 36.2%…
