Turkish freighter sunk in Sea of Marmara: rescue teams find empty life raft
Although the rescue operation was initiated immediately after the freighter's emergency call at 6:32 a.m., according to the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, the operation apparently came too late.
The shocking discovery in the southwest of the island of Imrali: an empty life raft.
The dinghy was drifting abandoned in the waves, as a video from the rescue team on X (formerly Twitter) shows.
Diving operations began on Friday morning, as reported by the
Sabah
newspaper , citing the Ministry of Transport.
And at least: the ship was found.
A sonar came across Batuhan A at a depth of 51 meters. However, there is still no trace of the crew (as of February 16, 3:54 p.m.).
The unfortunate freighter ran aground once
Heavy seas and heavy rain probably brought the 49-meter-long freighter to its knees, the coast guard said.
An accident such as the fire on a freighter in the North Sea apparently did not occur.
The ship is not tipped over, but just on the bottom and was carrying 1,250 tons of marble dust.
And Bathun A has a history: the ship had already run aground on April 2nd.
At that time just before entering the port of Karabiga.
