The Kraillinger community library is much more than rows of shelves full of books.

It has become a popular event location in recent years.

This is shown by the annual balance sheet for 2023.

Krailling -

It's not just reading: the community library in Krailling also sees itself as an event location.

For the first time, the number of events exceeded the 100 mark.

With a total of 103 events in 2023, the library increased its offerings in this area by 26 percent compared to the previous year.

This emerges from the annual balance sheet that it recently published.

In 1,596 opening hours, 103,879 items were borrowed.

In the previous year there were slightly more at 104,621.

The facility's inventory includes 27,540 media items.

1905 media were newly purchased in 2023.

The expenses amounted to 365,000 euros, the income to 16,3000 euros plus a grant of 3,000 euros.

There are 3.4 staff positions in the library, which is headed by Diana Widmann.

Online library popular

The library registered 43,787 visits last year.

That's around 15 percent less than in 2022. “In the library, we don't really notice the decline.

The number of reading cards has increased,” explains Widmann.

In summer many readers would use the terrace and enjoy the sun.

The online library is more popular than ever.

Here, at 15,093, a good 20 percent more media were borrowed than in 2022. “Sharemagazines” were also used with 523 accesses to read magazines and newspapers.

In contrast, loans in the novel and non-book sectors fell slightly.

The non-book area includes, for example, CDs, DVDs and games.

But that is a normal development.

“Other libraries feel the same way,” says Widmann.

Overall, the head of the library can look back on a very successful year and is pleased about 345 new registrations.

“We are particularly proud of the large range of events and our many young readers,” says Widmann.

There are 606 children up to the age of twelve among the 2,064 active readers.

This is partly explained by the fact that the library has a lot of contact with the primary school.

“We work closely with the school.

Every class comes to visit us at least once a year,” reports Widmann.

In addition to children, the readership includes 428 people aged 60 and over.

1191 users come from Krailling.

The second largest group is made up of Gautinger and Stockdorfer with 646 people.

Received Children's Library Award

A highlight for the library team was the awarding of the Children's Library Prize by Bayernwerk last June.

The focus was on the institutions' commitment to promoting reading for children and young people.

“We saw that our work had borne fruit.

We didn’t apply for the prize ourselves, but were suggested,” says Widmann.

Among the numerous events, the Harry Potter afternoon was particularly well received.

The children dressed up and had a great time as Hermione, Harry or Lord Voldemort.

As part of “Code Week Bavaria”, the library held five events so that children and young people can take a look behind the scenes of the digital world.

For example, they built Lego robots.

According to Widmann, all events were very well attended.

A new, diverse program awaits again this year.

On Friday, June 28th, a crime dinner will take place in the ruins of the Hofmark Castle.

There, detective instinct is combined with culinary delights.

The six participants can actively take on a role and help shape the evening.

Widmann reveals: “This has been on our wish list for a long time.

I am very excited."
