Doris Hübler would now like to take more time for art and literature.

Because during her time as director at the Graf-Rasso-Gymnasium, these hobbies were often neglected.

In a few days a new era will begin at the Graf-Rasso-Gymnasium.

Principal Doris Hübler is leaving the school after more than 20 years.

Fürstenfeldbruck – During this time she not only witnessed the move to the tulip field, but also the castling between G 8 and G 9.

When Doris Hübler looks out the window in her office in the school center at the tulip field, she still remembers the turbulent initial phase.

In September 2001 she moved from the Munich-Moosach high school to Rasso - actually as deputy to the then director Dieter Zerlin.

After he fell ill, she was promoted to acting headmistress and became his successor in 2004.

The beginning could have been easier

“Headmaster so quickly, that wasn’t planned,” says Hübler.

“Lessons have always been important to me.” As a deputy, you still regularly stand in front of the class, but as a director, you have less and less time for that.

Hübler always enjoyed working with students.

Nevertheless, she hasn't regretted the decision, even if the beginning could have been easier.

Shortly after it started, the old school building on Theresianumweg also changed from the city to the ownership of the district.

The building, designed for 600 students, was bursting at the seams.

Renovation and expansion, or new construction at a different location – that was the question.

“There were a lot of discussions,” remembers Hübler.

“The location was nice, but there were so many obstacles that the decision to move to a new location was the right one.” She is happy that the wishes of students, teachers and parents were taken into account.

The currently around 875 students benefit from bright rooms and the large auditorium, which can be used for all kinds of events.

The new Rasso

The new Rasso was one of the first schools with a projector in the classroom.

Since then, digitalization has become more and more advanced.

“I can no longer imagine a lesson without a digital medium,” says Hübler.

But she doesn't think much of a purely digital school.

“The effect of learning by writing things down is lost.”

The introduction of the eight-level high school (G 8) also took place in Hübler's first years.

The plans had to be re-planned in a short period of time and the students had to cope with more afternoon lessons.

It is true that she found the G 8 to be less bad the longer it ran.

“Nevertheless, I was happy when the decision was made to go back to the G 9.”

Now the young people have more free time again.

The working groups, which were forced to take place on Friday afternoons in G 8, were always well attended.

“It is impressive how much energy and commitment the students bring to their work beyond the classroom.”

More silence

In 20 years, Doris Hübler has experienced many highlights: the move to the tulip field, concerts, theater performances, sports competitions, school exchanges, and more.

The introduction of the double-hour principle has proven successful.

“That brought a lot more peace to everyday teaching for the students and teachers.” Only the introduction of the school agreement would no longer be linked to the move to the new building today.

Now, at 63, Hübler sees the time as ripe for an end.

She will be farewell next Wednesday – first on a sabbatical and then into early retirement.

“As much as I love my job, there are many areas in my life that have been neglected.” She wants to make more time for family, friends, her young golden retrievers and hobbies.

The 63-year-old also wants to do volunteer work - what else is she thinking about?

Her first trip will take her to Florida to visit a friend she met on a school exchange.
