Comedian Anke Engelke has reworked the classic children's book “The Bunny School”.
But their vegan version is not well received by farmers.
Munich – Anke Engelke (58) is one of the most famous comedians in Germany.
But in addition to projects like “LOL – Last One Laughing,” she has just completed a work for the littlest fans: The entertainer retold the children’s book “The Bunny School” – and wanted to create a modern version.
But the shot apparently backfired, as the book caused outrage among German farmers.

Anke Engelke's plan is not to ban old children's books, but rather to modernize them.
However, their reinterpretation of the “bunny school” is met with criticism.
The fox is not a natural enemy of the rabbits, but is completely harmless as a vegan.
The “problem” with this – there is another, almost invincible opponent: the farmers.
Fertilizers, pesticides, combine harvesters – agriculture is portrayed in the book as dangerous and harmful to the environment.

For many farmers this is not possible at all.
For example, the
Bavarian Agricultural Weekly newspaper
shoots against the author - and criticizes the depictions in the book.
Readers also express their dissatisfaction on
Amazon
, where “The New Bunny School” is available for purchase.
“Defaming farmers without specialist knowledge is just weak.
Farmers poison the environment, hunters shoot cute animals dead and combine harvesters are dangerous devils.
This will further fuel the urban-rural conflict!” says someone.
“Completely misrepresented image of the farmer.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” complains another buyer.

The comedy star emphasizes that the idea of making bunny and fox friends came with a request from the publisher to create another enemy.
“It was important to the publishing team that there was a conflict or danger in the new version,” she explains in an interview with the
Süddeutsche Zeitung
.
“So we decided to put the new friendship between the rabbit and the fox in the danger center.
“The horror is now a big mowing machine,” she describes.

But she never had the intention of bad-mouthing the farmers or even depriving the children of the idea that “it would be nice to become a farmer later.”
“I had to accept making people into bogeymen for the sake of the story,” she admits.
The 58-year-old generally has no problem admitting mistakes.
