A New York judge announced this Friday a fine to former United States President Donald Trump of almost
$355 million
and disqualified him from running a business for three years.
"The Court hereby bars Donald Trump... from serving as an officer or director of any New York corporation or other legal entity in New York for a period of three years," Judge Arthur Engoron wrote in his ruling, ordering to the magnate the payment of
354,868,768 dollars.
In this case, Trump was being sued for what were, according to the prosecutor, years of
deceptive practices
as he amassed the multinational collection of skyscrapers, golf courses and other properties that catapulted him to wealth, fame and the White House.
At the trial, which lasted two months, the former president complained of being a
victim of a rigged judicial system.
However, Arthur Engoron, the judge in the case, described Trump's conduct as an old resource to deceive banks and other entities with
financial statements that inflated the former president's wealth
.
That is the basis for his conviction.
Currently, Trump is dedicated to his campaign to run as the Republican candidate for the Presidency of the United States in the end-of-year elections.
The former president's lawyers had said, even before the verdict, that they would appeal the ruling.
