In the middle of February, spring is putting out its feelers

Highlights: In the middle of February, spring is putting out its feelers. In Bruck’s city gardener Valentin Zeh, snowdrops, winter aconites or crocuses are already starting to grow. Those plants that cause problems for allergy sufferers are also active - such as hazelnuts. Winter could strike again mercilessly at any time in February and March. For the plants that are already there, one can only hope that there is a blanket of snow. It protects against nasty frost.

In Karl-Heinz Henninger's nursery, the signs are already clearly pointing to spring.

Sunshine and pleasantly warm temperatures: Apparently we can hardly wait for spring again this year.

This is also evident in nature.

Fürstenfeldbruck - Although it is actually still the depths of winter, tender green is already sprouting from the ground everywhere.

“It’s all quite early this year,” says Bruck’s city gardener Valentin Zeh.

He is also happy about snowdrops, winter aconites or crocuses.

But of course nature does not limit itself to the plants that are beautiful from a human perspective.

“The weeds are already starting to grow,” explains the city gardener.

And that takes work.

Those plants that cause problems for allergy sufferers are also active - such as hazelnuts.

The pollen flight still seems to be limited.

At least Valentin Zeh has not yet received any feedback from the allergy sufferers in his team.

“Nobody has contacted us yet.”

However, the botany expert warns against assuming that spring has already come to stay.

Winter could strike again mercilessly at any time in February and March.

For the plants that are already there, one can only hope that there is a blanket of snow.

It protects against nasty frost.

Because the cold season is far from over, nothing is being planted at the city gardening center yet.

Production at the suppliers is already running.

These include the Henninger nursery, which is based on the B 2 between Fürstenfeldbruck and Mammendorf.

In one of the many greenhouses, operations manager Karl-Heinz Henninger and his team have been growing around 8,000 horned violets for several weeks.

Thanks to the many colorful flowers, it already looks like spring there too.

But plants and customers still have to be patient.

The nursery will not open its doors again until the beginning of March.

Hopefully spring will finally be here.
