After Apple and Meta, Samsung could also enter the market for mixed, virtual and augmented reality viewers.
In fact, according to rumors on the Sammobile website, the Korean giant has created a new working group, called "Immersive Team", with a focus on the creation of a new generation viewer.
At the beginning of last year, Samsung, Google and Qualcomm had formalized a partnership for the possible implementation of projects relating to mixed reality.
According to the source, Samsung has already employed 100 people in the initiative in order to finalize the prototype and launch it by the end of the year.
"Samsung hopes to present its viewers in the second half of 2024, immediately after the generation of foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6" writes the site.
The newly created team is made up of experts recruited from various departments, engineers and more.
The device will likely feature two 1.03-inch micro displays, produced by Samsung-owned eMagin, with Qualcomm's Snapdragon Xr2+ Gen 2 processor to handle the high-resolution graphics.
The operating system should instead be a customized version of Android, built by Google specifically for mixed reality and integrated with the company's broader ecosystem, phones, smartwatches, headsets and much more.
In Samsung's past there have already been virtual reality products, the Gear VR, which however required a smartphone to be inserted into the dashboard to access the contents in three dimensions.
Even if details are scarce, it is not said that the company cannot anticipate some elements of the viewer during the upcoming technology fair in Barcelona, the Mobile World Congress 2024, starting on February 26th.
